Xhoni: Marin, cila nga vjershat e Naim Frashėrit tė pėlqen mė shumė?

Marini: Jo vetėm mua, por tė gjithė shqiptarėve u pėlqen mė shumė se ēdo poezi tjetėr fillimi i poemės "Bagėti e bujqėsi". Nuk ka shqiptar qė nuk e di atė pėrmendėsh:

O malet e Shqipėrisė! e ju o lisat e gjatė!

Fushat e gjera me lule, qė u kam ndėr mėnt dit’ e natė.

Ju bregore bukuroshe e ju lumėnjt’ e kulluar,

Ēuka, kodra, brinja, gėrxhe dhe pyje tė gjelbėruar...

Ti Shqipėri mė ep nder, mė ep emrin shqipėtar,

Zėmėrėn ti ma gatove plot me dėshirė dhe me zjarr.

Shqipėri, o mėma ima, ndonėse jam i mėrguar,

Dashurinė tėnde kurrė zemėra s’e ka harruar.

Xhoni: Edhe unė do tė pėrpiqem ta mėsoj pėrmendėsh kėtė poezi.

 

B. Translation:

John: Marin, which of Naim Frashėri’s poem do you like most?

Marin: Not only myself, but all Albanians like the beginning of the poem "Cattle and Agriculture" more than any other poem. There isn’t one Albanian that doesn’t know these verses by heart:

You, mountains of Albania, you big-big oak trees,

Large fields with flowers that day and night in mind I bear.

Rivers with transparent water and you nice hillocks,

Verdant forests, summits, hillsides and slopes...

Albania, you gave me the honor Albanian to be,

With desire and warmth you moulded me.

Albania, my motherland, although in exile

My love for you is everlasting in time.

II. GRAMMAR

DECLENSION OF NOUNS WITH THE ADJECTIVES PRECEDED BY AN ARTICLE:

The adjectives are used mostly with the nouns. They agree with nouns in gender, in number and in case. They follow the noun and are preceded usually by the article. For example:

O malet e Shqipėrisė! e ju o lisat e gjatė!

Fushat e gjera me lule, qė u kam ndėr mėnt dit’ e natė.

You, mountains of Albania, you big-big oak trees,

Large fields with flowers that day and night in mind I bear.

Ju bregore bukuroshe e ju lumėnjt’ e kulluar,

Ēuka, kodra, brinja, gėrxhe dhe pyje tė gjelbėruar...

Rivers with transparent water and you nice hillocks,

Verdant forests, summits, hillsides and slopes...

 

Below are the models of the declension of nouns with adjectives preceded by the articles:

Exercise 1.

Put the words in brackets in the appropriate case:

Example:         Xhoni dhe Marini janė (shokė tė mirė).

                        John and Marin are good friends

`                       Xhoni dhe Marini janė shokė tė mirė.

l. Zana ėshtė (vajzė e mrekullueshme). Zana is a nice young woman.

2. Motrat e Marinit janė (vajzė e sjellshme). Marin’s sisters are well-mannered young women.

3. Zana ėshtė (vajzė e re) me (fytyrė tė qeshur). Zana is a young woman with a smiling face.

4. Shqipja ėshtė (gjuhė e vėshtirė). Albanian is a difficult language.

5. Nė Shqipėri ka shumė (vende tė bukura). In Albania there are many beautiful places.

6. Nė shtėpinė e Marinit pamė mjaft (libra tė rinj). We have seen a lot of new books in Marin’s apartment.
